I want to plant some fast growing shade trees which will be close to the house and patio. I had to cut some beautiful trees because of rot and possible root problems to my foundation and I miss them very much. Thanks, Lynda

Since you're growing close to your house and patio, I suggest you choose from the following trees. They're small and will fit into your landscape without causing problems with your buildings and patio. They'll provide shade and most will provide seasonal flowers.

Cercis canadensis Eastern Redbud
Cercis reniformis Texas Redbud
Chionanthus retusus Chinese Fringe Tree
Chionanthus virginicus White Fringetree
Cladrastis kentukea Yellowwood
Cornus florida Flowering Dogwood
Cornus kousa Dogwood
Cotinus coggygria Smoketree
Franklinia altahama Franklin Tree
Halesia carolina or
H. monticola Silverbell or Mountain Silverbell
Hamamelis x intermedia Witchhazel
Heptacodium miconiodes Seven-son Flower
Koelreuteria bipinnata chinese Flame Tree
Lagerstroemia indica Crapemyrtle

Best wishes with your new trees!
