The Q&A Archives: Lilacs

Question: When should I trim my lilacs to promote the most blooms next year?

Answer: Lilacs should be pruned immediately after the blooms are spent. Lilacs develop flower buds during the summer months for next spring's floral display. If you wait too late after flowering has finished to prune your lilacs, you may inadvertently cut off the developing flower buds.

Best wishes with your garden!
