I would like to plant carrots in my garden. How deep does my soil need to be?

The depth of soil your carrots will need depends upon the type of carrots you're growing. Some grow only 4" long; others grow up to 10" long. Just to be on the safe side, soil should be loose to a depth of 12" or more to allow for good root development.
