The Q&A Archives: Caring for a dwarf globe blue spruce

Question: How do I care for this new plant that I recently put in a masonry flower box in the front of my house?

Answer: Globe Blue Spruce (Picea pungens 'Globosa') is a compact, rounded evergreen with steel blue foliage. It becomes a bit wider with age, but typically grows 2-4' tall with a spread of 3-5'. Because of its small size, it should fit perfectly in your flower box. Water regularly, when top 3 in. of soil is dry. Feed with a general purpose fertilizer before new growth begins in spring. For a tidy, neat appearance, shear annually to shape.
