| Yes, remove the bag before planting your new Japanese Maple. Removing all the packaging will allow the roots to become established in the planting hole. If you didn't remove the burlap bag it would eventually decompose on its own, but it would take time - time that the roots could be using to explore out into the ground and firmly anchor the tree.
