I live in mid-atlantic zone and was wondering if begonias are hardy enough to leave in the ground all winter or should they be dug up? They will be planted under a long overhang next to the house.

Begonias would be considered annuals outdoors in your growing region, even under the protection of overhanging eaves. They cannot take temperatures much below 40F. I'd leave it in a pot and sink the pot in the ground to enjoy all summer long, then bring the pot indoors over the fall and winter months.

Best wishes with your landscape!
