| A watering well or water basin is simply an area that you make beneath the tree by mounding soil up to retain water. If your tree is small, measure out 12" from the trunk and start mounding 2-3" of soil up, all around the tree, 12" from the trunk in every direction. You'll end up with a circle of mounded soil. When you water your tree, put the water in the basin until you've filled it up, then allow it to drain. Fill it up a second time. This is all the water you need to apply each week. Making a watering well or water basin to hold the water will concentrate it over the rootball and allow it to trickle down slowly, wetting the entire root mass. Hope this clarifies things for you! |
