Hello

My husband was in a store to purchase an apple tree. On the tag it stated a male and female tree required for polination. No one at the store knew the difference between a male and female tree.

He purchased a Red Delicious Apple Tree from Home Depot which did not indicate any information regarding polination. My question is: Does the tree require another apple tree in the vicinity to polinate or could it be self polinating?

Yours truly,

Lynne Foster.

Although some apple varieties are considered self-fruitful, all apples will produce a heavier crop if there is a second apple variety in the garden. Your red delicious will need a Golden Delicious, Gravenstein, Jonagold, Fuji or Gala tree in order to produce fruit.

Best wishes with your apples!
