The Q&A Archives: Strawberries Indoors

Question: I grow my strawberry plants indoors in containers. The plants produce beautiful flowers, but no fruit. As soon as the blooms die down, the "f ruit" is very tiny, brown and hard. I saw no bugs or other signs of disease. By the way, I have the Burpee "Picnic Hybrid" variety. Thank you. Brooklyn, NY

Answer: Pollination, pollination, pollination.... In order to get good strawberries the bees need to work. Either put the plants outside once flowering, or open some window to your greenhouse to let the bees do their thing. you can also try to plant pollinatorby hand pollinating the flowers with a Q-tip. Just rub the pollen from one flower to another..
