I would like to plant a memorial garden for my mother. The area is shaded and I would like something that is easy to care for and returns every year so I won't have to replant. Do you have any suggestions?

Dawn,

Most shade flowers are annuals in your area. Your good options are foliage plants like aztec grass (white), purple heart (purple), beefsteak plant (dark red), or Persian shield (purple; perhaps a bit cold tender).

For flowers try Hinkley's columbine (reseeds), Turks cap (if very bright shade), shrimp plant, and white butterfly ginger.
