The Q&A Archives: What to plant

Question: OK, I am new to west Texas. I just moved to Odessa, Tx 9 months ago from central Il. I need to know what flowers work out the best in the west Texas for planting in planters. We did petunias in rectanular boxes & hung them on the fence in the full sun, but recently they are not doing so well.
What is a good flower to put in these?

Answer: Joe,

Petunias do well until the heat hits, although some of the trailing types do well into the early summer. For summer try marigolds, zinnias (especially the trailing "narrow leaf" zinnias), blackfoot daisy (a perennial), fan flower (Scaevola), and dwarf bush zinnias like the Profusion series.
