| You are in USDA zone 6. Tropical Hibiscus is a beautiful frost-tender plant with funnel-shaped flowers, which are usually about 4-6 inches in diameter. In Plant Hardiness Zones 8-11, it can be grown year round outdoors with minimal care but must be grown indoors during the winter months in your gardening zone. Hardy hibiscus is also called Rose of Sharon. It is a long blooming deciduous shrub, getting 6-10 ft (2-3 m) tall and about half as wide. Its distinctive shiny dark green leaves are arranged alternately on the stems. They have three deep lobes, and are toothed along the margins. The flowers may be single or double and come in white, blues, purples, and pinks. Some have a pronounced crimson base.
