I have a bed with northern exposure and a bed with eastern exposure. What evergreens or shrubs would work here, and what flowers for color?

Some shade-loving evergreen plants include Boxwood, Euonymus, Holly, Pieris and Viburnum. All but the boxwood will provide spring color. The list of annuals and perennials for both beds is staggering! Try Anemone, Monkshood, Begonias, Browallia, Campanula, Dicentra, Ferns, Pansies, Hosta, Impatiens, Lobelia Helleborus and Primrose. Each of these plants will grow well with morning sun, or in shade, and all are winter hardy. Try one or several - you're sure to find some favorites.
