The Q&A Archives: Pruning Pentas

Question: My Pentas look straggly and overgrown; the leaves are a little yellow and some are dropping. I want to prune them. How short can they be pruned??

Answer: Pentas can be pruned by cutting back no more than a third of the present growth. Cut back to an outside bud. Pinching some of the buds from the new growth will make a more compact plant and will reduce the need for frequent heavy pruning. You should also have more bloom.
