| I have a hibiscus plant that I've been nursing back from frost bite. The hibiscus now has new growth and seems to be doing well; I don't have any blooms as of yet, but the leaves are a healthy, shiny green. In the pot I have planted Vinca Vine for decoration. Recently, I noticed yellow mushrooms growing in the planter. There are about 6 of them in varying sizes growing in clusters of about 2. Why are these mushrooms growing and should I dig them out? Should I try repotting my hibiscus and risk shocking it while it is making a great come back from frost bite? I've never experienced the growth of mushrooms in any potted plants before and after asking around I'm assuming it is not a common occurrence. What do you suggest I do? Thanks |
| Finding mushrooms growing in potting soil really isn't all that unusual. The mushrooms are growing on decaying organic matter (the peatmoss or shredded bark) in the potting soil. You can easily remove them by either pulling them out or carefully digging them out with a spoon (so as not to hurt the roots of your plants). They're not edible so be sure to toss them in the trash.
