I bought some small containered water lilies a while back from Home Depot (also a min cat tail) ~ the water lily leaves opened up but they have not extended to the top of the water yet. Should I be worried? It has been several weeks & I think the fish are eating at the leaves. I thought about raising the plants to the top of the water level but if I do that ~ for sure they won't grow up any farther. Thanks |
You may have to elevate the pots of water lilies. The water should only be about 6" deep from the top of the pot. If you set them too deeply in the water, they may not have the strength to grow to the top. Generally the stems grow just long enough for the leaves to rest on the top of the water so don't worry about the leaves growing up and out of the water. Fish generally like to feed on the algae that forms on the leaves. It doesn't hurt the leaves of your plants. Best wishes with your pond. |
