The Q&A Archives: broccolli

Question: I have several broccolli plants in my garden they were growing good till something ate all the leaves off will they continue to grow or should I replant?
I have taken care of the critters dining on them
(humanely of course)

Answer: The answer depends upon how large your plants are. Obviously, broccoli needs leaves for photosynthesis. Without leaves, the plants will die. However, it's possible your plants will replace the missing leaves so I'd give them a week or so to see what they do. If they have enough energy to produce new leaves, you'll see some leaf buds beginning to swell on the stalk. If they don't show any potential in a week, I'd remove them and replace them with healthy new plants.

Best wishes with your veggie garden!
