| Hi, I live inland about 35 miles NE of San Diego. It is warmer in the summer (can get into the 100's) and cooler in the winter. My question has to do with my poor results growing bell peppers. Every time I plant them, the vegetables are either extremely small (walnut size) or terribly misshapened. I have tried planting in different areas, but no matter where I plant them, I seem to have the same result. Any suggestions? |
| Even though your daytime temperatures can get warm, your nighttime temperatures are cooler than bell peppers like. The small fruits and misshapen fruits indicate the weather is just too cool for them. If you choose short-season, cool-climate varieties you should have success. Try ?Cal Wonder?, ?Gypsy?, ?Carlo,? and ?Mexi-Bell?. All will mature in less than 65 days and all are tolerant of cold soils and cool night temperatures. Best wishes with your peppers! |
