The Q&A Archives: Overwintering Geraniums

Question: What is the best method of care when bringing my geraniums indoors for the winter? Do they need to be cut back? Will they bloom before taking them back outdoors? Sandy Riley Edwardsville, IL

Answer: Cutting back your geraniums when you bring them indoors is an excellent idea. I'd cut them to about 12" tall on all stems. I have been successful in getting them to bloom indoors if I place them in full sun and fertilize on a regular basis. .
