The Q&A Archives: pets and gardens

Question: Could you tell me what kind of plants should be planted to keep a very jealous 9 month old, Lab- Shephard mixed dog from eating the flowers and trees in our garden? i heard there are several, marigolds being one of them.

Answer: Mint, wintergreen and citrus are all odors that repel dogs and cats so you might give those a try. You can buy mint, wintergreen, bergamot and citronella oils, saturate a cloth with the oil and hang it near the plants to dissuade your pup from chewing on the plants. The good new is that your puppy will eventually outgrow this behavior and you can once again have an attractive landscape.
