| A friend planted a peach tree last summer. He was loosening the top soil last week and discovered thousands of ants & their egg's in the soil. Will these ant's harm the tree or root's, & if so is there something he can put around the tree to get rid of them. THANKS BILL SHAFFER |
| The ants are there because the peach tree is a source of food for them. Peach trees exude a sticky sap which is like candy to the ants. Ants are also attracted to aphids so check the tree thoroughly for aphids. If they're present, insecticidal soap will take care of them. The ants won't harm the peach tree but they may discover the peaches and start feeding on them, as well. If you periodically flood the area where the ants are living, they may move on. Or, you can use poison baits (poisonous only to the ants). Best wishes with your peach tree. |
