Can I prune a Japanese Umbrella Pine? It's starting to lose its shape and getting straggly.

Japanese Umbrella Pine, Sciadopitys verticillata, takes well to shearing to keep or get it into shape. Start by shearing off only a few inches so you can see how the tree will react. If regrowth is thick, you can shear it again in 4-6 weeks. Depending upon how out of shape and straggly it has become, you may only need to shear it every 2-3 years to keep it in shape.
