What kind of soil for vegetable plants and what kind of weed killer that will not harm lawn? |
Vegetables will grow in average garden soil but they will provide higher yields if you first amend the soil with organic matter. Remove the weeds in the planting area then spread 4-5" of organic matter (compost, etc.) over the top and dig it in to a depth of 8-10". Then rake smooths and plant your veggies. After you've planted, spread another 2-3 inches of compost over the top of the bed. This will help suppress weeds and help the soil retain moisture. Weed killers for lawns come in all kinds, from granules to liquids. To keep grass blades safe, use a broad-leaf weed killer such as a product that contains 2,4-D. There are weed and feed products on the market that protect and feed the grass while killing the weeds. Best wishes with your landscape! |
