The Q&A Archives: Grass in sand

Question: What kind of grass do I grow in sand? What so I need to do to grow it?

Answer: Compost is probably the only practical option for increasing the water holding capacity of the turf area. I suggest adding a few inches and mixing it in as deeply as a rototiller will go. If you can bring in some soil with a more loamy texture that would also be very helpful. I'd sow a grass seed mixture - Kentucky Bluegrass and fine leafed fescue do well in your gardening region.
