my lilac bush had a few blooms in early spring, but only has green folage now. We purchased the home last year, so this is an exsisting bush. Are lilac's supposed to bloom all summer long, or seasonal?

Lilac's bloom in the spring and then the flowers fade. As your shrub matures it will produce lots of flowers but they will all open in early spring and be spent by late spring. For additional color in your garden you might try planting a wisteria. It has similar looking flowers and blooms later in the summer.

Best wishes with your new landscape!
