WHAT KIND OF FERTILIZER DO I NEED TO USE ON MY BUTTERFLY BUSHES AND DO I TRIM OFF INDIVIDUAL BLOOM STEMS AFTER THEY HAVE BLOOMED OUT?

Butterfly bushes do not drop their spent flowers the way many other shrubs do so if you find them unsightly you can prune them off. Rather than cutting off each individual flower you can shear your shrub to remove all the spent flowers all at once. Shearing or pruning in this manner will encourage lots of healthy new growth so don't be afraid to prune this vigorous shrub back!
