Question: I have a difficult time propogating hardy hibiscus "Rose Mallow" from seed. I've tried pre-soaking the seeds and planting without success. Normally I divide the plants, but would like to raise my own seedings. Any advice? I have no problems with other seeds! Thank you. Martha Germantown, MD

Answer: Chip the seed coat lightly, being careful to avoid the embryo. Then soak in hot water for 1 hour. Sow the seed and keep at 70-80 degrees F..
