| My petunias which are planted in a window box that hangs on a westsouthwest facing fence in the backpatio ,have been infested w/ spider mites, I think, they have the salt & pepper look on every single leave. They have been blooming in spite of it but are now looking pekid. I know I should have sprayed early on w/ my neem oil ( Gardensafe 3 in 1 --fungicide.pesticide.miticide) which has given good results in other aplications,but w/ my mother getting sick and my sensitivity to all sorts of chemicals ,I kept putting it off. I want to plant some purple vincas or lisianthus in the space in the center right in between the petunias. Is it too late to save them and how soon can I plant after the treatment, I don't want my new plantings to get sick. Theyre not easy to find in my area. Miami beach , Fla. Zone 10.Bayfront ,very humid and hot. Windy if breezy. Thank You for you help ! |
| I'd spray the petunias to try to get rid of the pests. Spray as instructed on the label - repeat sprays may be needed - and be sure to spray the undersides of the leaves, not just the top of the plant. It should be safe to plant in the same window box immediately after treating for the petunia pests. Neem oil won't harm your other plants. Best wishes with your new plants! |
