| My petunias have been infested w/ spider mites, they have the salt & pepper look on every leaf! They've been blooming in spite of it, but are now looking pekid. They are in a westsouthwest facing windowbox that hangs on the fence in the backpatio. they get noonday and afternoon sun which is very hot in my zone 10 in Miami Beach ,Fla. I should have sprayed early on w/my neem oil (Gardensafe 3in 1--funcgicide,pesticide,miticide) but w/ my mother getting sick ( she's better now) and my sensitivity to all chemicals , I kept putting it off. I want to plant some vincas or lisianthus in the space in the center in between them, but I don't want my new plantings to get sick. Are they good companions and how soon after treatment can I add the new flowers ? is it too late to save my petunias ? They're not easy to find in my area. I live on a bayfront Island ,very hot & humid . windy on breezy days. |
| I'd spray the petunias to try to get rid of the pests. Spray as instructed on the label - repeat sprays may be needed - and be sure to spray the undersides of the leaves, not just the top of the plant. It should be safe to plant in the same window box immediately after treating for the petunia pests. Neem oil won't harm your other plants. Best wishes with your new plants! |
