The Q&A Archives: Protecting grape vine??

Question: I have a grape vine I planted three years ago. This is the first time it has bearing fruit. I have fertilized with all-purpose lawn/garden fertilizer, sprayed for insects and trained the runners. Is there any thing I need to do to protect from birds and when should I do it??

Answer: Birds don't generally bother grapes but if you have a problem in late August (when most grapes begin to ripen) you can drape the vines with bird netting. Hope this isn't something you need to do but if so you'll find bird netting in the garden center.

Best wishes with your grapes!
