Peonies require regular summer watering; make sure that the entire rootmass is thoroughly saturated when you water each week. The best way to check the soil moisture level is to water as you normally would, wait 3-4 days, then dig down into the soil 3-4 inches. If the soil is still moist 3-4" down, you won't need to water for a few more days; if the soil is on the dryish side, it's time to water again.

Best wishes with your garden!
