| The golden tortoise beetle, sometimes called the goldbug, loves morning glory leaves so perhaps that's what's feeding on your plants. Check the plants several times a day and look on the undersides of the leaves, as well. If you find these goldbugs (about the size of a ladybug) then you've caught the culprit. It also likes to feed on the leaves of sweet potatoes and on field bindweed. Generally the population doesn't need chemical controls. It has only one generation per year and it sounds as though it has already done its damage in your yard. To discourage populations next year, be sure to remove garden debris at the end of the season and rake the ground directly beneath your morning glories to expose the eggs to birds and to the weather.
