| I PLANTED YOUR ASPARAGUR ROOTS THIS YEAR AND KNOW YOU NEED TO LEAVE THEM ALONE FOR 3 YEARS, BUT MY QUESTION IS THE PLANT HAS SPROUTED AND KIND OF LOOK LIKE A FERN ,BUT I DO NOT KNOW WHAT I AM SOPPOSE TO DO NOW AM I TO CUT THEM BACK OR LET THEM GROW THE WHOLE SEASON AND CUT THEM AT THE END OF THE SUMMER OR WHAT ..PLEASE ADVISE ..THANK YOU ..JOE |
| The ferny foliage is collecting and transporting energy back to the roots of your plants so leave it alone. It will die down on its own and when that happens you can either remove it from the asparagus bed or you can simply leave it alone (it will fall down over the crowns of the plants and help insulate the roots during the winter months). If you do this you can simply rake or pull it out of the bed in the very early spring, just as the plants begin to grow again. Best wishes with your asparagus! |
