Is it possible to plant corn in a single row? Maybe about 5' long? I have some cucumber seeds too. Should I start them inside and transfer to spot where I have my tomatoes? Is it too late? Help!! I'm new at all this. My tomatoes are beautiful but not producing anything but one tomato. I have some extra early maturity corn seeds, some big boy hybrid tomato seeds, and some Marketmore 76 cucumber seeds...what should I do? |
You can plant corn in a single row but it may not produce as much as it would if it were planted in a block or in a square. This is because pollen is formed on the tassles and falls down onto the silks on the ears of the corn. If the corn stalks are in a block, there will be lots of pollen available from all the plants to drop down onto all the silks. In a row, the only pollen available will be from each individual plants. Early corn takes at least 60 days to mature so you're starting your garden a little late, but better late than never! Your tomatoes will produce more when the temperatures are consistently warm to hot so just be patient with your plants. Next year, start planting your garden by mid-May or the first of June and you should have a bountiful harvest. Best wishes with your garden! |
