Name that flower! - Knowledgebase Question

My father had some bulbs that had to be planted and dug up every year. They would grow about six feet tall and would have flowers about 8 inches dia. They were verying colors. Any ideas? Possiable name, where to look for info?

My guess is that he grew Asiatic lilies. They are sometimes called Oriental lilies; stargazer lily is the most commonly grown.
