The Q&A Archives: aspen

Question: have a friend that lives in Denver. She has problems with aspen trees coming up in her yard every year. She cuts them down whenshe mows but wants to know of there is something she can do to keep them from growing.. yes she has aspen trees in her yard

Answer: I wish there were an easy answer for your friend. Aspen trees by nature want to colonize an area and make a thick stand of trees so they send up new shoots from the roots. The only way to for her to deal with them is to mow or cut them down. If she applied any chemical to halt the suckers, that chemical would be transported through the root systems and adversely affect her trees. Wish I had better new for you - and for her!
