My family and I were in Colorado Springs a few weeks ago, and we fell in love with the lilac bushes found in the foothills of Pike's peak. We are wondering if there are similar flowering and fragrant lilac bushes that will survive the Dallas, TX heat?

Jason,

Unfortunately lilacs suffer in the Texas and are poorly adapted. As an alternative shrub you might consider crape myrtle (pretty but lacks the fragrance) or Buddlea davidii (pretty and fragrant). If you decide to try a lilac anyway look provide a morning sun and afternoon shade location.
