Both tomatoes and cucumber plants like warm days and lots of sunshine. Because it is late in the season you'll want to try to find plants already growing in pots at your local garden center. If you start earlier next year, you can sow seeds instead of buying plants already started. Find the sunniest spot in your garden to plant your tomatoes and cucumbers. Amend the soil with organic matter (compost, aged-manure, etc.) to help the soil drain well. Plant your tomatoes and cukes, then water them deeply once or twice a week (depending upon weather). It's important that the soil remain moist but not soggy wet. Mulch over the top of the soil with more organic matter to help slow evaporation, suppress weeds and moderate soil temperatures. Enjoy! |
