Answer: The flower buds are hollow balloons, which gradually inflate and color up. Finally the buds burst open into star-shaped flowers 2- to 3-inches across. They last a few days and if you snip off the dead flowers, more will appear throughout the season. I just use a pair of scissors to snip the dead flowers off the stalk and more appear later in the season. Give it a try!
