We're redesigning our garden spot just off the front walkway. It faces east, and gets the morning sun, though partly shaded by two large palm trees. It is a small plot about 10 square feet. It now has a collection of plants, mostly ones that were evicted from the house, and is bordered with decorative grass. We would like some ideas, both for plants and design. Thanks.

Carolyn,

I suggest you visit some local gardens and perhaps a nearby Botanical Garden. Everyone's tastes are different and seeing plants helps you figure out what appeals to you. When selecting plants keep in mind that they grow so find out how large a plant gets and if you have room in that small area for it. People tend to overcrowd to get more in. Consider also the 4 seasons and try to keep color there year round by selecting a mix of plants or by replacing annuals at various times through the season.

Thanks for the question. Please stop in again soon!
