My new home's yard is in terrible shape. It's comprised mostly of crabgrass and some sort of vine that is trying to wrap itself all around the base of the new shrubs and trees that I've planted. I try to pull this vine/weed away from the plants, but it's everywhere! It's pretty tough and I have to really pull at the roots to pull it up. Any idea what this viney weed is and how I can get rid of it?

I can't tell from your description what the weed might be - dodder (if it has no leaves), creeping charlie (scalloped leaves) or bindweed (heart shaped leaves). There's no chemical control for dodder so keep pulling it out. Creeping charlie and field bindweed are difficult to control with chemicals but it can be done. Check your local garden center's arsenal of lawn products and try to match the picture on the label with the weed you're finding in your lawn. Make sure that what you get is safe to use on crabgrass (not all weed control products are!). Best wishes with your lawn!
