Is there anything harmful in the inexpensive plastic pots that would make them unsuitable for planting edible plants...peppers, tomato, herbs? I bought a pot that had a sticker with the UPC code and it also said

Good question! I'm glad you're being careful with your veggies. The container itself is probably made from recycled materials which would make it unsuitable for using it for food preparation or storage but not for growing vegetables in. You can use the nursery pots or thin plastic pots for growing anything you like. The pot won't taint the things you grow.
