The Q&A Archives: replanting trees

Question: I live in the North Georgia mountains and I would like to relocate some of the smaller trees in my yard. I have some that I would like to get from the woods beside us and put in the yard, when would be a good time to do this?

Answer: The very best time to transplant trees and shrubs is late fall or early spring. I'd wait until the weather cools and the trees begin to go into dormancy. November or December should be good months for the transplant. Be sure to water them weekly after moving, to help the roots re-establish themselves. Best wishes with the move!
