The Q&A Archives: Austin, TX Buffalo Grass Seed...Why not at Home Depot?

Question: I live in Austin, Texas...My home is 12 years old, and the builder/landscaper put in Buffalo Grass (which is great and drought resistant) but need to plant some seeds for some bare spots...Why DOESN'T Home Depot carry these seeds?

Answer: Buffalo grass seed is suitable only for a few growing areas and it is quite expensive ($70 for a 5 lb. bag). There are not many requests for the seed which I think explains why HD doesn't carry it. I'm sure a local nursery can help you with the seed.
