When is the best time to split my hostas? They have finished blooming and are very crowded. Thank you

Hostas can be divided any time. Spring is best, but you can do it now if you're careful not to let the roots dry out and if you keep them watered the rest of the summer so they can re-establish their root systems. I dig mine up. lay them on their sides, and slice them into divisions - each division should have both roots and leaves attached. Replant and water them in well. They'll look wilted for a few weeks but will come back strong. Best wishes with your project!
