The Q&A Archives: Salvia

Question: I planted purple salvia that has flowered. I cut off the dead flowers, expecting the new growth to generate new flowers. Am I wrong to assume that?

Answer: You are absolutely right! Salvia is deadheaded by clipping off the entire spent bloom just below where the flowers were - I find it's quick to use scissors. It should respond by producing a new flush of growth and some additional flowers.
