My tree was little when I planted it and it's grown about 3 ft now and I don't know how to prun the tree I wanted it to cover my front porch how do I keep the fullness and not just chop it off by mistake. and also I have a flowing plum tree in the back yard two of them side by side and I don't know where to start to trim it. I leave in a moblie home park and the tree's can't get to high so this tree is special to me and I don't want to just chopped it up. This tree was planted when I had to put my cat to sleep in honor of him. Please help. Mahalo Ms. Lee

You can keep both your ficus and your flowering plum small and compact by carefully trimming them each year. You can cut back each branch by 3-6" on your ficus and it will get bushy and nice. You can do the same with your plum tree. By cutting each branch back by just a few inches you'll keep it looking healthy and happy and you'll be able to keep everything small so it won't outgrow it's planting space.

Best wishes with your trees!
