Lily of the Nile (Agapanthus) should have the spent flowers removed. Cut off the seed pods (including the flower stem) and your plant may bloom again before summer is over. Allow the foliage to remain. It will die down on its own when it is ready to rest for the winter months. It does not make a suitable houseplant - it needs cold but not freezing temperatures during the winter months. Since yours is in a container you can simply move the container into an unheated garage or basement where the temperatures remain above freezing. Water once or twice during the winter to keep the potting soil from completely drying out. In the spring move it back outdoors and it should begin growing again. Enjoy! |
