The Q&A Archives: critter control

Question: What can I put on my perennials that will discourage

Answer: There are a number of repellants on the market and some gardeners report good results using the commercial repellants such as Ropel, Deer Away Deer and Rabbit Repellant and Get Away Animal Repellant, the Natural Scent Repellants containing exotic animal urine, and home made sprays containing ingredients such as pepper and garlic while other gardeners report that pet cats and dogs can be effective at deterring the smaller critters such as chipmunks. You may have to try several different repellants to see which works best for you. I'd advise against using moth crystals - the chemical in them can remain in the soil and can actually harm the roots of your plants.

Best wishes with your garden!
