The Q&A Archives: Edging

Question: Hi

What is the best edging to use to around the lawn to prevent the grass from spreading? Appreciate it.

Answer: There are so many choices! I think the factors in determining which product and style you use will be your budget, and the look you're going for in your garden.

You can choose from:

Wood ? Styles range from natural finish to decorative "fence" versions. Landscape timbers and railroad cross-ties are also popular for larger areas.

Metal ? Gives a commercial look and lasts practically forever.

Plastic ? Available in rolls or decorative "fence" styles.

Stone, brick or concrete - Gives a more formal appearance. Use precast concrete or brick in a sawtooth/zigzag pattern.

Properly installed, any of the available edging materials will do a good job in keeping grass out of your flower beds.

Best wishes with your landscape!
